Let's Do It! The sassy and sophisticated life and music of Cole Porter.
In ‘Let’s Do It!’, soprano Elise Caluwaerts, bass-baritone Wilfried Van den Brande and pianist Kim Van den Brempt take you on a fascinating journey through the life and music of American songwriter Cole Porter (1891 - 1964).
Sassy and sophisticated are terms that suit Cole perfectly: his lifestyle, persona and appearance recall the Roarin’ Twenties of the Great Gatsby.
Cole Porter wrote the lyrics and music to over 700 songs, of which a good 30 or so have achieved immortal status. Wilfried, Elise and Kim deliver captivating performances of ‘Night and Day’, ‘Love For Sale’, ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’, ‘Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye’, ‘Begin the Beguine, ‘Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love’, ‘Anything Goes’, C’est Magnifique, ‘Don’t Fence Me in’, ‘It’s De-lovely, ‘What Is This Thing Called Love?’ and other Porter songs.
Wilfried Van den Brande (who wrote a PhD on Porter’s legacy, produced the EuroArts documentary ‘Looking for Cole’ and performed over 300 Porter songs) recounts the songs’ origin stories and connects them to the composer’s compelling life with gripping anecdotes. Elise Caluwaerts’ magical voice and dancing feet give life to Porter’s songs in a way that takes you back to the world of Ginger and Fred, of Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby.
