In addition, Kim has specialized in the art of song accompaniment with Graham Johnsson at the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He continued this study with Jozef De Beenhouwer at the Conservatory of Antwerp. As an accompanist, he could be heard in the company of Ilse Eerens, Axel Everaert, Lucienne Van Deyck and Thomas Blondelle. For ten years he forms a duo with soprano Elise Caluwaerts, culminating in the released of their first album Nightfall in September 2014. Their programmes are centred around the romantic song, chansons and contemporary repertoire.

Kim currently teaches at the Conservatory of Leuven, where he founded the Ensemble XXI for new music.

Elise Caluwaerts

Thanks to her versatility and captivating personality, coloratura soprano Elise Caluwaerts has grown into a renowned soloist both in Belgium and abroad. Elise Caluwaerts began her singing career as a baroque singer, and later expanded her repertoire to the romantic and contemporary genre. Her love for challenging repertoire – ranging from opera to multidisciplinary projects – led to various creations and remarkable collaborations with internationally renowned composers and ensembles. During the Sydney Festival 2016, she sang the role of Lei in Pascal Dusapin’s chamber opera Passion. Furthermore, she was invited by the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra for a CD recording with spectacular coloratura repertoire.

"Belgian coloratura soprano Elise Caluwaerts impressed with her supple sense of line and strength, displaying a soaring, pure-toned top register and richly coloured lower register." (The Australian, reviewing Passion at the Sydney Festival 2016)

In 15/16 Elise could be heard as Rea in the multimedia opera Romulus Le Grand with the Swiss orchestra Musique des Lumières led by Facundo Agudin. After the world creation in December 2015, she was quoted as « the revelation of the production, with her powerful and transparent soprano ». The production will be repeated in 18/19 at the Teatros del Canal and Teatro Colòn in Buenos Aires. In 2016, she will also feature the multidisciplinary project io sono Rocco at Tournai, Marseille and Montréal. Together with pianist Kim Van den Brempt, she will bring to the stage a variety of recitals with the romantic Lied repertoire, ranging from bel canto to late romanticism.
